aboUT THE POD

The flotation tank has 10″ of water saturated with 1000 pounds of Epsom salt, creating incredibly buoyant water for you to float on. The water is heated to skin temperature (93.5 F). 

Once you’re settled, it is virtually impossible to distinguish what parts of your body are in contact with the water and which aren’t, tricking your brain into a “floating” sensation. Since your senses are void from input, the tank is sometimes also called a sensory deprivation tank.

The short answer is yes – falling asleep in a float tank does happen, although it’s much less likely than you think.

While floating, you’re in complete control of your environment. You may leave the lid of the Pod open for as long as you need, you have control of the lights on the interior of the Pod, and you may exit the Pod at any time.

The float tank is a wonderful haven for pregnant women. We do, however, recommend that pregnant women avoid floating during the first trimester. If you have any concerns about the effects of floating on your pregnancy, we ask you to consult and get permission from your physician before you float.

Yes, it is safe for women to float while menstruating if using proper feminine hygiene. If you are comfortable and can control your menstruation in a swimming pool, then you can do so in a float tank.

The float pod is already a sterile environment due to the high concentration of medical grade epson salt.  Just as no microorganisms can live in the dead sea the same goes for the the level of salt in the float Pod.  However, our state of the art pod uses a surface skimmer, filter, ozone filter system and a disinfection process to keep the pod clean.

For your health and safety, you should not float if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Have colored or permed your hair within the past two weeks, or used wax or oil-based hair products. This precaution is for both you and our water quality and filtration system.
  • Infectious skin or respiratory disorders, including active cold sores.
  • If you have shaved within 24 hours
  • Large open wounds
  • Incontinence
  • Health conditions such as vertigo, epilepsy, uncontrolled kidney disease, uncontrolled low blood pressure, seizures or schizophrenia 
  • Recent chemotherapy or radiation in the last 30 days
  • High-risk pregnancy
  • More than mild sunburn
  • Under the influence of any drug or alcohol

While you can float every day without harm, we find that the relaxing effects of a one-hour float typically last beyond that day. For best results, we recommend regular sessions, and many clients find that floating once or twice a week provides the most benefits.

Since it is a private experience, most people don’t wear any clothing. Anything you wear will press against your body, becoming a distraction. In this regard imagine it as similar to getting into your bathtub.​
